Dance mats/dance games are sometimes referred to as 'DDR' mats/games, named after the original 'Dance Dance Revolution' game.

Functions:

Can be used like a regular controller in non-dancing games, though that isn't likely to be suitable in most non-dancing games.

Works fine with 'Playstation controller to Xbox convertor' I sell.
It's also fairly likely to work with some Gamecube,Dreamcast etc convertors, but I haven't tried with those convertors.
