This TOSlink(the most common type) optical cable is usually used to connect your DVD player, Xbox360, PS3, PS2, PC sound card, etc to a surround sound (AC3/Dolby Digital, DTS) receiver for 5.1 audio.

Use with anything that has a TOSlink output/input.

With optical cable, their is no possibility of interference at all due to the way they work.
Optical cables use fibre optic cable (not conductive metal cable like coaxial etc) to carry light beams. This ensures a pure digital signal, with no interference.
It also means it should eliminate ground loop hum.

Can also be used with XBox(*) & Playstation2(**), Xbox360, Playstation3
*To use an optical cable with an XBox, you need a cable(which plugs into the Xbox) which has an optical cable socket. I often sell these, please view my other products.
The Xbox puts out 5.1 surround sound for movies, & many games.
** The Playstation2 puts out 5.1 surround sound for movies, & 4 channel surround for some later games. Will put out plain stereo audio through this optical cable with all other games.
